Alex’s Story

As a history and language buff, Alex decided to travel to Egypt for a holiday to get out of Serbia for the winter. As the founder and CEO of Linguado, he wanted to use Linguado to find a friend in Egypt before he ventured there, one that could help him navigate the country and find the hidden gems of Hurghada outside the major tourist attractions. 

On Linguado, Alex met Mustafa. After a few weeks of chatting (and a video call to prove that Alex was, in fact, the CEO of Linguado) these newfound friends met in Egypt. Mustafa had never met someone born in the United States, so this friendship was just as special for him as it was for Alex. Alex also helped Mustafa with his English while Mustafa gave Alex a tour of his city. 

Mustafa brought Alex to a local restaurant, one that Alex would never have found without his new companion, where they had dinner. Alex implored Mustafa about the culture in Egypt and learned about Mustafa’s family. Alex even met some of his family members, bringing Alex deep into the culture and making him feel like a true local.

Not only did Alex obtain an unforgettable experience from having a local friend as a guide, but Mustafa also gained unique insight into what it’s like living in the United States. After only experiencing what U.S. culture was like from the news, movies, and television, Mustafa got first-hand experience from an American native.
